Introduction

        In the tropics, the mangosteen fruit has a long history as a folk remedy. It has been treasured not only for its medicinal properties but also for its delicious taste. The fruit is purple, has a snow-white pulp, and is about the size of a small orange. Traditionally, it has been used to treat conditions such as diarrhea, dysentery, fatigue, fever, infections, malaria, parasites, skin conditions, and tuberculosis to name a few. No wonder the Indonesians call it the “Queen of Fruits.”

        Scientists around the world who have studied mangosteen may have found one of the reasons for the fruit's many benefits.  Mangosteen contains an abundance of a certain class of active healing compounds called "xanthones."

        Xanthones have been found to have antidepressant, anti-diabetic, anti-leukemic, anti-microbial, anti-tuberculosis, anti-tumor, anti-ulcer, and anti-viral effects. Introduction
