Temple of Dayaka
14-1/4" x 14-1/4"
This was my first attempt at a relatively small piece. I expected it to be easy, but was surprised to find that working on a small canvas required a great deal of thought, planning, and precision. Everything had to be done on a tiny scale. It was easy to use a smaller crochet hook, but tough to make the yarn fit like I wanted it to.
The spark of inspiration for this piece came from an inner experience. I’d had an idea for making clothing using free form crochet and wanted to look into the future to bring my designs back into the present. So I imagined my life’s artwork displayed in a room in an inner-world museum, and used creative visualization to place myself there. To my surprise, I found not one room, but several rooms that contained my work. But the work hung on walls--and it was not clothing. Something drew me to one wall, which had a series of works entitled, “The Temple Series.” They depicted several Golden Wisdom Temples. “The Temple of Dayaka” is the first in this series.
